One Insurance Policy Every College Student Should Have
Does your college student have all the essentials they need to return to school? No, we’re not talking about the myriad of sweatshirts, books, snacks, electronics, and other gear that will be crammed inside the car before they head off.
Instead, we’re talking about Private Risk Management. And, specifically, making sure your student has the proper insurance coverage travelling with them before they drive off into the sunset. In this post, we’re going to go over one type of insurance coverage you should consider for your student.
The One Insurance Policy Every College Student Should Have
It’s Renter’s Insurance! No student dorm room or apartment is complete without expensive electronics. These items should be protected with the correct insurance. Here’s what you need to know:
- Dorm & School-Owned Housing. Your homeowner’s policy may automatically cover your students personal items if they live in a dorm or school-owned housing. Be sure to review your policy before they leave so you know what’s protected and if limits or deductibles exist. If you discover a coverage gap, consider adding a rider for an extra layer of protection.
- Off Campus & Non-School-Owned Housing. Your homeowner’s policy may not provide coverage. Consult with your broker first, and then consider adding a renter’s insurance policy. These policies can cost as little as $15 per month and will help pay to replace damaged or stolen personal items.
The Return to College Checklist
Renter’s insurance isn’t the only coverage you should consider for your student. In fact, there are many more. And, if we’re being frank, renter’s insurance isn’t even the most important one! So, we’ve take the liberty of identifying every policy you should have, might want, and must have in place. You can find them all by downloading our Return to College Checklist.
